Hakomi Mindful Somatic Sessions

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve just completed my training in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Coaching! :) I was drawn to this modality because the therapists and coaches I admire LOVE Hakomi. Here’s why I chose to offer Hakomi sessions, and a look at some of the core values and tools it provides:

Mindfulness:
Mindfulness invites us to slow down and be fully present. In this space of curiosity and non-judgment, we can engage with our experiences without being caught in the stories we tell ourselves. This mindful state relaxes the nervous system and opens up space for insights and new choices in how we respond to life’s challenges. It also helps us track what’s happening in our body and mind, allowing us to perceive what lies beneath the surface of the story—offering greater clarity and awareness of what our unconscious and body are revealing.

Acceptance, Support, and Loving Presence:
One of the most powerful breakthroughs I experienced during training was realizing how transformative it is to have someone be deeply present with you in a state of loving acceptance. It’s amazing how distress can soften simply because someone is holding space for you without judgment. This gentle state of acceptance often brings up deep emotion and healing. Hakomi practitioners trust that when we meet life’s experiences with love and presence, our bodies, hearts, and minds know how to heal. This extends into a radical trust in life itself, creating a space where you feel safe, valued, and held with compassion.

Core Beliefs and Supporting Missed Experiences:
We all have unmet needs—whether for love, safety, support, or validation. Hakomi practitioners offer statements that help you explore and meet these needs. For example, if you grew up feeling like your voice didn’t matter, this might have led to the belief that no one cares about what you need, and so you hide your feelings. A practitioner might offer the statement, “Your needs are very important to me,” and together you would explore what naturally arises. This process allows parts of you that may hold anger, grief, or disbelief to come forward, heal, and finally trust that your feelings and needs truly matter. As a result, your nervous system relaxes, and a deep sense of wholeness grows.

Somatic, Bottom-Up Approach:
True change happens when the body, not just the mind, integrates new awareness. Often, even when our thoughts change, our bodies can remain stuck in patterns of anxiety, depression, or trauma. That’s why working with the body’s cues is crucial. By tuning into physical sensations, we access a deeper state of connection and being. Trauma, in particular, can only be resolved through the body, which is why I also offer Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resolution. I love how somatic work takes us out of our heads and allows us to be fully intimate with our present experience. Sometimes it feels almost surreal as your body begins to shift on its own, revealing new sensations and feelings you may have never encountered before. It’s truly incredible!

Hakomi sessions are slow, intentional, and explorative. You can bring any topic to a Hakomi session, whether you’re seeking support on a specific issue or just want to explore what’s present for you in the moment—whether pleasant or unpleasant. Entire worlds open up when we make deep contact with what’s happening within us. In a world that often feels fast-paced and superficial, Hakomi offers a beautiful, grounded way to connect with ourselves, others, and life itself.
